March 21, 2021 — A spooky new launch trailer has dropped for the upcoming indie game, Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace, ahead of its March 23 release. The trailer showcases a variety of Lovecraftian horror to inform what players can expect, and it also implies the inclusion of jump scares and a plethora of psychological elements.
Developed by Artefacts Studio and published by Asmodee Digital, Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace is a turn-based RPG based on the popular board game of the same name, which is itself based on the RPG adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s Call of Cthulhu. Set in 1926, Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace is steeped in Lovecraftian horror lore and seemingly makes good use of its underlying source material. Game developer Artefacts Studio has stated players will be picking from 12 of the most iconic investigators from the Arkham Horror universe, each with a unique skill set.
The storyline centers around the investigation of an astronomy professor who has been murdered in her mansion. Said mansion contains frights and traps to challenge players as they are tasked to solve the mystery. Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace has been penned by the team who wrote the game’s counterpart tabletop version, a fact that should go down well with fans of Arkham Horror.
The trailer reveals the dark tone and atmosphere of the game while hinting at the mysterious and psychological horrors that will affect the sanity of the investigators as they attempt to solve the murder, a feature explained in a previous gameplay trailer. The game slogan adds to the dark and deadly vibe, using the ominous tagline “madness begins when reality departs” which suggests a mind-bending experience. Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace is narrated by a menacing-sounding woman implied to be the villain of the story. While there are not yet substantial answers to many questions surrounding the game, the launch trailer has certainly succeeded in building hype around what looks to be an interesting and engaging horror title.
Arkham Horror: Mother’s Embrace is developed by Artefacts Studio and releases March 23, on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, macOS, and Steam.
